Work Begins on a New Glass Atrium, Teanlowe Shopping, Poulton
Posted on 7th April 2015
Work started this weekend to create a new glass atrium and mall entrance at Teanlowe Shopping, Poulton. The Cosy Corner Cafe, located at the entrance to the Teanlowe car park, also closed its doors on Saturday 4th April.
Following the closure of the Cosy Corner Cafe, the cafe will be used as a temporary pedestrian access, diverting all shoppers from the Teanlowe car park through a temporary doorway into Unit 20, the former pet shop, and onwards to the mall. Using the cafe and pet shop will avoid having to close the access into the centre from the car park, which would otherwise have been necessary.
This new diverted route into the mall will ensure public safety as major structural work begins. The existing temporary walkway and hoardings will be removed, secure awnings put in place and steelwork erected as the new glass atrium is built.
Kevin Burgoyne, Site Manager for main contractor Eric Wright Construction said, “Major construction work needs to be undertaken to create a new glass atrium and entrance to the mall which invloves heavy steelwork and extremely large panes of glass manoeuvred into place. The health and safety of the general public is our number one priority, hence the diverted entrance through the Cosy Corner Cafe.
“The overall look of the mall once the works have been completed will be spectacular as the large glass atrium will allow lots of natural light to flood the mall and give the shopping centre a bright and airy feel throughout.”
Steelworks to the new entrance will commence on 27th April and will take approximately six to seven weeks.
Carol and Dougie Hall, owners of the Cosy Corner Cafe said, “We have had a wonderful nine years running the Cosy Corner Cafe. We have made a lot of friends and we know they are disappointed that we are closing the cafe. We have wanted to retire for a while now and Booths have given us the opportunity to do so. We would like to thank all of our customers and staff for their support over the years.”
The new Booths’ foodstore which will have a net internal sales area of 33,468 sq ft will include a Booths’ cafe at first floor level and is scheduled to open in November this year.
The main contractors Eric Wright Construction continue to work closey on site with the local community to minimise disruption wherever possible. If you have any issues or questions, please contact Kevin Burgoyne on 07917 621015 who will be happy to help.
